quick question, should i keep Zelda's name Zelda, or would that be wrong? I think it would be, I'm just making sure.

What cities are still around? I'm guessing Hyrule Castle went back to normal. If so, then I had a mind for a citizen of the town, or are there other villages, since this is the future?

I think it would be better if you didn't name the reincarnate Zelda. Because if the baddies were to find out that her name was Zelda, then they'd probably assume that she's the princess's reincarnation

This is in the future and all of the castle citizens are still in Kakariko since Link failed to save the future.

alright, that clears up a lot. Thank you

actually. I DO have another question, What would you classify Zelda's power? I know she has a clear sense of wisdom, but would light/ seals fall along those lines?

I suppose it does. I mean, she does give Link the Light Arrows and helps the Sages with sealing Ganondorf.

I made zelda 19, though I can easilly change it. I wasn't quite sure myself.

I submitted Zelda... or should I say, Serenade. I trust there will be no probelems?

I have an idea of a Co-leader for Ganondorf's Army, but it might take time to write up something. Also, if the Co-leader isn't open, could it be possible to create a sort of messenger character for the Sages? :)

a roleplay based on 999 (err, LOOSELY, though the concept is still basically the same) count me in! I LOVE that game.

The question is, will we be able to gather enough people?

Hopefully, I'll occasionally post this in the chat to stir interest. If we cannot then I will consider this role-play a failure, which I hope does not happen.

Another thing that might shy people away is being new to the website. Pretty sure people would generally prefer to be part of a RP from someone who's been on the site for a while.

Or the obvious, it's like 7AM where I live and was 4 AM when I posted it.

Chick-fil-A Bowl notes: Virginia players say Mike London has set team on right path

ATLANTA, Georgia -- Spend a few moments around members of the Virginia football team and one thing becomes apparent quickly: They really like coach Mike London.

The gushing doesn't seem contrived, either.?

"He's a father figure," said running back Kevin Parks.

"He's passionate. He tells you how he feels," said lineman Luke Bowanko. "He cares about us 100 percent."

London, a native Virginian and former head coach at Richmond, quickly won over players and has the Cavaliers in their first bowl appearance since 2007.?

We'll have more about his story in tomorrow's paper.

* What comes to mind when you think of the University of Virginia?

Great academics? Thomas Jefferson? Great football?

Well, perhaps two of three.

But players say this year's success has increased enthusiasm in Charlottesville. And they think the Chick-fil-A Bowl is just Step 1 in a revitalized football program.

"Some people see Virginia as a school that just plays football but is known for its academics," Bowanko said. "Our recent lack of success plays into that. But I think this year has really revamped our reputation and people are taking to us a lot differently than they have in past years. Hopefully we're on the upswing in terms of reputation. But that's something you earn, you just don't get it, and we understand that."

Cornerback Demetrious Nicholson said the sense was that the Cavaliers might be ahead of schedule with its 8-win season in 2011, making it more important to build on the accomplishments in 2012.

"This was a big step," he said. "We set the standards for ourselves, so next year we've got to get better."

* The SEC is on the verge of winning its sixth consecutive national championship, and although conference rivalries may be pass? in the wake of this year's radical?realignment, a win would still allow Virginia to flex its ACC pride.

"I think it'd be a big deal for the ACC as well as our team, knowing that we can beat great teams like Auburn," Nicholson said.

* While Auburn is at the Georgia Dome, Virginia is practicing today at Georgia Tech's indoor practice facility.?

After practice, players from both teams will make a joint visit to the Martin Luther King Center.

Dinner will follow at Sal Grosso's Brazilian Buffet.

Louisville mayor says more details are needed before finalizing proposed hospital merger

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer is certain on two things concerning a proposed merger of three different hospital systems in his city: first, University Hospital is a public identity and second, more details need to come out before he believes Gov. Steve Beshear will approve the merger.

University Hospital, which is run by the University of Louisville, Jewish St. Mary?s Healthcare and Catholic Health Initiatives are proposing a statewide merger of their hospitals but have seen significant criticism when it comes to including University Hospital.

That?s because that hospital is the place where many of the urban city?s indigent go for care. And also because Catholic Health Initiatives would be the controlling partner in the merger, leading many to question the use of religious directives for beginning and end of life decisions.

Fischer told Pure Politics he believes in the merger, but the public needs more details.

?But the public can?t just get a ?trust us it?ll be OK,? Fischer said. ?It needs to be here?s the $200 million dollars we?re getting and here?s how it needs to be spent??

Fischer also said the issue of ending certain procedures at University Hospital because of Catholic directives isn?t a big deal because not all hospitals provide all surgeries anyway.

Beshear will ultimately decide on whether or not to approve the merger, which would affect hospitals in Louisville and Lexington.

Fischer also touched on issues regarding the renewal of a franchise agreement with Insight Communications, the parent company of cn|2 and the future of Occupy Louisville?s tent city in downtown Louisville.

Wall Street ends 5-day rally on renewed euro-zone concerns (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) ? U.S. stocks fell more than 1 percent on Wednesday after a hefty year-end rally and the S&P 500 erased gains for the year on renewed concerns about the euro zone's financial health.

The selloff followed the euro's slide to an 11-month low against the U.S. dollar as regional debt worries prompted a wave of selling, with thin trading exacerbating volatility.

"It seems like the weakness in euro, breaking that $1.30 level, really made investors push that 'sell' button," said Ryan Detrick, senior technical strategist with Schaeffer's Investment Research in Cincinnati.

"But it's somewhat of an exaggerated move, considering that there isn't much volume, and this could end in a one-day selloff."

A recent rally on Wall Street had been supported by a series of positive U.S. economic data that encouraged investors to shift their focus from fears about Europe's debt crisis sparking a global recession to optimism that the U.S. economy was on track to recovery.

But "with no domestic economic news to guide the action, much of the focus was on Europe," WhatsTrading.com options strategist Frederic Ruffy said.

U.S. stock index futures had advanced earlier in the session after an Italian debt auction where short-term borrowing costs were halved, potentially a good sign for a sale of longer-dated bonds on Thursday.

But those gains were short-lived, as the euro fell to a session low of $1.2938, its lowest since January, before rising back to trade at $1.2949.

The Dow Jones industrial average (.DJI) fell 139.94 points, or 1.14 percent, to end at 12,151.41. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index (.SPX) dropped 15.79 points, or 1.25 percent, to 1,249.64. The Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC) lost 35.22 points, or 1.34 percent, to 2,589.98.

S&P UP 10.5 PCT IN QUARTER

After a 5 percent rally last week that helped Wall Street add to what has been the best quarter in over a year, the S&P 500 pulled back below its 200-day moving average, a closely watched indicator of market strength it has struggled to hold this year.

For the quarter, the S&P 500 is up 10.5 percent.

For the year, the Dow is up 5 percent, while the S&P 500 is down 0.6 percent, and the Nasdaq is off 2.4 percent.

In Wednesday's session, investors concentrated on 2012 with Europe's debt crisis as well as a slowdown in Asia and the impact of Europe's recession on a U.S. recovery on the agenda.

"There are clearly some major hurdles on the horizon," said Peter Kenny, managing director at Knight Capital in Jersey City, New Jersey. "Looking into next year, there is more apprehension about the risks associated with the current climate."

The biggest gaining sectors over the last five days, in cyclical areas like materials and energy, led the market lower on Wednesday, sparked by a drop in commodity prices. The S&P materials sector index (.GSPM) fell 2.2 percent.

Gold sank, tracking industrial metals, on concerns about the prospects for global economic growth next year. It was gold's biggest one-day drop in two weeks.

Medicis Pharmaceutical Corp (MRX.N) fell 1.2 percent to $33.35 a day after cutting its fourth-quarter earnings outlook.

Citigroup Inc (C.N) shed 2.9 percent to $26.13 after U.S. regulators won a delay in a securities fraud lawsuit against the bank. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is seeking to appeal a judge's decision to reject its $285 million settlement with the bank.

Volume was light in the post-Christmas period and ahead of the New Year's Day holiday. Composite volume on the New York Stock Exchange, the Nasdaq and Amex was 4.31 billion shares, well below the year's daily average of around 7.9 billion shares.

On both the NYSE and the Nasdaq, about four stocks fell for every one that rose.

Our Strange Universe: Q&A With Nobel Prize Winner Brian Schmidt (SPACE.com)

This year, three astronomers were awarded the Nobel Prize in physics for discovering a bizarre aspect of our universe that gave rise to the concept of dark energy.

In 1998, two teams independently discovered that the expansion of the universe was not slowing down or holding steady, as expected, but speeding up. One team was led by Brian Schmidt of the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia and Adam Riess of the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Md., and the other was led by Saul Perlmutter of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, Calif.

To explain this perplexing finding, astronomers conceived an entity called dark energy that's essentially counteracting the force of gravity to pull the universe apart.

SPACE.com spoke to Schmidt after his Nobel win to find out more about the weirdness of our universe, and what it feels like to win the world's most famous science award.

How did you find out you'd won the Nobel Prize?

Well you get a call, in my case, 15 minutes before the announcement. So at 8:30 on Tuesday night here in Australia, I received a call from a woman with an impeccable Swedish accent.

I have graduate students who like to play jokes on me, so I was thinking, wow, they did a pretty good job on this one. But they told me it was a very important phone call and they wanted to make sure it really was Brian Schmidt they were talking to, and then members of the committee come on and read their announcement, and congratulate you.

In my case, I'm a wine-maker, and they asked me about my 2011 vintage of wine, and then they asked me whether or not I'd be willing to go live at their announcement in seven or eight minutes to tell the world what I'd done.

How did you feel?

Well, I kind of went weak in the knees. And I got a little queasy, 'cause it's just so intense, it's so amazing. You're excited, but you're kind of scared at the same time.

How do you think the Nobel Prize will change your work? Will it bring more opportunities?

It certainly does that.

From my perspective, if you're in a country like Australia or the United States, it brings a huge responsibility to ensure that people understand why science is important to society. And Nobel Prizes are just such an amazing opportunity to highlight everything that science brings to our civilization, and how it's taken us to a level of prosperity that I think we all take for granted.

When you began this project back in 90s, did you ever think it might lead to a Nobel prize?

No. We wanted to do a big project, we wanted to measure the ultimate fate of the universe. [Images: Peering Back to the Big Bang]

Although that as a big project, it wasn't one that was going to win a Nobel Prize, no matter what we measured. But it was an important thing to measure, at least from an astronomy point of view, the future of the universe. Was it going to expand forever, or was it going to eventually halt in its expansion?

So, a fundamental question about the universe, but I have to admit the idea of winning a Nobel Prize about it just wasn't on the radar.

When you saw the first indications that the expansion of the universe was accelerating, how long did it take for you to believe your results?

Adam Riess sent me a preliminary preview at the end of 1997, and when I saw it I just assumed we made a mistake and it would go away.

So you know, after six weeks of plotting around, it was pretty clear that the result was not going to go away, and it just sort of slowly sunk in over a period of a couple of months. At some point it kind of sinks in and you're like, 'Oh, geeze. What are we going to do now? No one's going to believe this!' [Twisted Physics: 7 Mind-Blowing Findings]

Was it gratifying that the other team led by Saul Perlmutter found the same thing?

I was surprised because one of the reasons I was so worried back in the end of 1997 was because preliminary results from the Supernova Cosmology Project were saying not that the universe was speeding up, but rather that the universe was slowing down and slowing down quickly.

And so it's one thing to have a crazy result, and it's another thing to completely disagree with the other team doing a very similar experiment. So yeah, it was a little reassuring to see that we were getting the same thing once we found out about each other's results.

Do you think dark energy is the explanation behind this acceleration?

It's definitely hard. We are guessing that the universe is filled with energy, that's our best guess.

We're getting the Nobel Prize, not for dark energy ? we're getting it for seeing the accelerated expansion of the universe. And so while I don?t think we're absolutely sure it's dark energy, I think that's the best explanation. But it could well be something even more exotic.

How do you think the universe will end?

The fate of the universe looks pretty bleak.

The universe is going to expand faster and faster over time and the reality that we see now will eventually fade away from view. It will be so far away that we won't be able to see its light anymore.

And so, while our own galaxy and a couple of other nearby galaxies will sort of merge together to form some super-galaxy, all the stars will eventually die because they run out of nuclear fuel, so we'll have a bunch of burned out embers surrounded by a sea of nothingness.

Do you find that depressing?

It's certainly sobering. It's certainly not the way I would have chosen for the universe to end. But, you know, the universe does what it wants, and I'm just here to figure out what it's doing. I can't judge it.

What inspired you to become an astronomer?

My father was a biologist. My parents had me when they were very young, so I remember my dad starting a PhD., and I remember my dad finishing a PhD. I remember having science around me from a very young age. I always wanted to be a scientist.

I became interested in astronomy when Comet West came by in 1975. That comet made me realize that the sky was interesting to look at. My dad bought me a very inexpensive telescope that I could look through.

Overweight 7-Year-Olds Face Higher Risk of Asthma (HealthDay)

FRIDAY, Dec. 23 (HealthDay News) -- Children who are overweight or obese during early childhood have a greater risk of having asthma at age 8 than normal-weight kids, a new study finds.

Researchers in Sweden followed more than 2,000 children for eight years, using preschool and school health records to track their height and weight at ages 1 year, 18 months, 4 years and 7 years. Parents completed questionnaires about their child's health, including asthma and allergy status.

Children who had persistently high BMI (body mass index) -- in the 85th percentile or above -- throughout early childhood, or who were normal-weight toddlers but gained weight and had a high BMI at age 7, were more likely to have asthma than kids who had a normal body weight.

However, kids who had a high BMI at an early age -- at 18 months or 4 years -- but slimmed down by age 7 were not at higher risk of asthma than other kids.

"If the children are only overweight during the early period before 4 years of age we do not see an increased risk of asthma during school age," said lead study author Jessica Magnusson, a Ph.D. student at the Institute of Environmental Medicine in Stockholm. "However, if they are persistently overweight, or overweight at a later age -- age 7 -- then there is an association with asthma at age 8."

Asthma, characterized by inflammation of the airways, may cause wheezing, coughing, chest tightness and trouble breathing.

The study is in the January issue of Pediatrics.

At age 8, about 6 percent of the kids in the study had asthma. Those overweight at age 4 and age 7 had a nearly 2.5 times greater risk of having asthma.

Researchers excluded kids who'd had early symptoms of wheezing or had been diagnosed with asthma prior to age 2.

Researchers also took into account parental history of asthma. A high BMI was associated with an increased risk of asthma only in kids without parental history of the disease, according to the study.

Researchers pointed out that their study does not show that being overweight or obese causes asthma. However, the march upward in childhood obesity rates has coincided with an increase in asthma rates, leading some to speculate that the two may be linked biologically.

One theory is that leptin, a hormone found in fat tissue, may contribute to an inflammatory immune response that could trigger asthma, which is a chronic inflammation of the airways.

A prior study found higher leptin levels in overweight children, and that even among overweight children with similar BMIs, kids with asthma tended to have higher leptin levels.

The current study also found an association between being overweight at age 7 and sensitization to airborne allergens. Sensitization, or the presence of certain antibodies in the blood, often indicates an allergy to a particular substance, but researchers did not track actual symptoms.

Getting control of a child's weight is important to prevent asthma and other conditions that are showing up more in kids, including diabetes and high cholesterol, said Nancy Copperman, director of public health initiatives in the Office of Community Health at North Shore-LIJ Health System in Great Neck, N.Y.

And obesity and asthma can feed off each another. Children experiencing asthma symptoms and having difficulty breathing may be less apt to participate in physical activity, while parents may worry about their asthmatic kids and not allow them to do certain things, such as run outside in the cold, Copperman said.

"What this study argues for is prevention," she said. "The kids who were heavier and got leaner didn't have the increased incidence of asthma, while those who were lean and got heavier or were heavy from the beginning did ... Obesity is not a cosmetic problem. It has real health consequences."

Sunday's NFL Capsules (AP)

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. ? Victor Cruz set two franchise receiving records, and Ahmad Bradshaw ran for two touchdowns as the Giants kept their playoff hopes alive by winning the New York-area bragging rights with a 29-14 victory over the Jets on Saturday.

After a week of trash talk about who ruled the city, neither team did much to boast about. But the Giants (8-7) did more than the Jets (8-7) and can win the NFC East with a victory next week against Dallas.

The Jets' playoff hopes took a serious hit, and they will need to win at Miami next week and get help from several other teams.

Cruz, who had three catches for 164 yards, broke Amani Toomer's single-season mark for yards receiving ? and the team's record for longest touchdown reception, a 99-yarder that gave the Giants the lead for good in the second quarter.

___

LIONS 38, CHARGERS 10

DETROIT (AP) ? The Lions made the playoffs for the first time since 1999 as Matthew Stafford threw three touchdown passes in the first half.

Detroit (10-5) has won three straight after a seven-game slump to earn a wild-card spot.

According to the Chargers (7-8), they will not be in the postseason for a second straight year after making it five times in a six-season stretch. And that might cost coach Norv Turner his job.

The Lions held San Diego scoreless until midway through the third quarter, when Philip Rivers threw an 11-yard pass to Malcom Floyd to make it 24-7.

___

PATRIOTS 27, DOLPHINS 24

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) ? Tom Brady ran for two touchdowns and threw for another and New England rallied to clinch a playoff bye.

The Patriots trailed 17-0 at halftime then scored on their first five possessions in the second half. The Dolphins helped when Matt Moore lost a fumble at his 38-yard line then threw an interception that Devin McCourty picked off at the Patriots 2.

New England (12-3) won its seventh straight game. After the Texans lost to the Colts on Thursday night, the Patriots needed a win or a tie to lock up one of the AFC's top two spots.

Miami (5-10) lost for the third time in eight games after opening at 0-7 and is 1-1 under Todd Bowles, who took over when Tony Sparano was fired.

___

RAIDERS 16, CHIEFS 13, OT

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) ? Sebastian Janikowski kicked a 36-yard field goal 2:13 into overtime, eliminating Kansas City from the playoff race and keeping Oakland's AFC West title hopes alive.

Carson Palmer threw for 237 yards and a touchdown for the Raiders (8-7). His perfectly thrown 53-yard pass to Darrius Heyward-Bey early in overtime set up Janikowski's winning kick, allowing Oakland to avoid a second straight late-game meltdown.

Kyle Orton threw for 300 yards for Kansas City, his only TD pass going to Dwayne Bowe with 1:02 left to tie the game. The Raiders went three-and-out, giving Kansas City the ball back, and Orton hit Bowe for 25 yards and Terrance Copper for 11 more to set up Ryan Succop for a potential winning field goal on the final play of the game.

Succop's 49-yard try was blocked by Trevor Scott to send the game to overtime.

___

BILLS 40, BRONCOS 14

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) ? Jairus Byrd and Spencer Johnson returned Tim Tebow interceptions for touchdowns on consecutive plays in the fourth quarter to help Buffalo snap a seven-game losing streak.

Tebow finished with a career-worst four interceptions as the Broncos (8-7) fell into a tie with Oakland for first place in the AFC West. Denver lost its second in a row while squandering a chance to inch closer to its first playoff berth since 2005.

Byrd scored on a 37-yard return with 8:03 left and Johnson had a 17-yarder 18 seconds later for Buffalo (6-9). C.J. Spiller ran for a career-best 111 yards and a touchdown, and Leodis McKelvin scored on an 80-yard punt return.

___

TITANS 23, JAGUARS 17

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) ? Matt Hasselbeck threw for 240 of his 350 yards in the first half as Tennessee tried to keep its faint playoff hopes alive.

The Titans (8-7) snapped a two-game skid, and head to Houston with a chance at their first winning record since 2008.

Rob Bironas kicked three field goals, including a pair of 51-yarders, and Jamie Harper ran for a touchdown. Jared Cook had a 55-yard TD catch and finished with 169 yards receiving, a franchise high for a tight end.

Maurice Jones-Drew, the NFL's rushing leader, ran for 103 yards and a TD for the Jaguars (4-11). He now has a career-high 1,437 yards this season.

___

BENGALS 23, CARDINALS 16

CINCINNATI (AP) ? Andy Dalton threw a pair of touchdown passes, and Cincinnati withstood yet another fourth-quarter comeback by Arizona that kept the Bengals in playoff contention.

Another small crowd at Paul Brown Stadium saw the Bengals (9-6) secure only their third winning record in the last 21 years and stay in the running for the final AFC wild card.

Dalton threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Gresham and a 19-yarder to Jerome Simpson, who did a somersault over a defender and landed on both feet in the end zone. Dalton joined Peyton Manning (26), Charlie Conerly (22) and Dan Marino (20) as the only NFL rookies to throw 20 touchdowns.

Arizona (7-8) rallied from a 23-0 deficit and had a chance to tie. Receiver Early Doucet was uncovered at the goal line but tripped as he ran, letting a fourth-down pass fall incomplete with 1:11 left.

___

VIKINGS 33, REDSKINS 26

LANDOVER, Md. (AP) ? The Minnesota Vikings survived injuries to Adrian Peterson and Christian Ponder on back-to-back plays to end a six-game losing streak.

Toby Gerhart filled in for Peterson and set up a touchdown with a 67-yard run, and Joe Webb threw for two TDs and ran for another while subbing for Ponder.

Webb's 8-yard pass to Percy Harvin broke a 23-all tie early in the fourth quarter, and rookie Mistral Raymond's first career interception set up Ryan Longwell's 23-yard field goal that gave the Vikings a 10-point lead with 4:05 to play.

The Vikings are 3-12. The Redskins lost their sixth straight home game to fall to 5-10.

Peterson's left knee was hurt on the first offensive play of the second half. Ponder suffered a concussion.

___

PANTHERS 48, BUCCANEERS 16

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) ? Cam Newton broke Peyton Manning's rookie record for yards passing in a season and set a franchise record with a 91-yard touchdown pass to Brandon LaFell.

Newton threw for 171 yards and three touchdowns and scored on a remarkable 49-yard run up the middle in which he outraced smaller defensive backs to the end zone.

The Panthers (6-9) scored on eight of their first nine possessions and piled up 397 yards in three quarters against the league's 30th-ranked defense. Coach Ron Rivera pulled Newton and the other key starters early in the fourth quarter.

DeAngelo Williams scored on runs of 8 and 22 yards, his sixth and seventh of the season, and Jonathan Stewart ran for 88 yards and caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Newton.

Tampa Bay (4-11) lost its ninth in a row.

___

STEELERS 27, RAMS 0

PITTSBURGH (AP) ? Rashard Mendenhall ran for 116 yards and a touchdown and backup quarterback Charlie Batch played efficiently in place of an injured Ben Roethlisberger.

The Steelers (11-4) kept their hopes of an AFC North title alive even with Roethlisberger's sprained left ankle forcing him to watch the game from the sideline as the team's third quarterback.

Pittsburgh hardly needed him. The defense had little trouble dominating the NFL's lowest-scoring offense.

St. Louis (2-13) managed just 232 yards while getting shut out for the second time this month. Steven Jackson rushed for 103 yards to top 1,000 for the seventh straight season, but backup quarterback Kellen Clemens sputtered in place of the injured Sam Bradford. The Rams lost their sixth straight.

___

RAVENS 20, BROWNS 14

BALTIMORE (AP) ? Joe Flacco threw two touchdown passes, and Baltimore moved one step closer to winning the AFC North.

Ray Rice ran for 87 yards and caught a TD pass for the Ravens (11-4), who led 17-0 at halftime and held on against the bumbling Browns. Baltimore completed its first unbeaten season at home (8-0).

The Ravens would win the AFC North by defeating Cincinnati next week. That would also give them a first-round bye and a home playoff game.

Josh Cribbs had a career-high 84-yard punt return for Cleveland (4-11). But the Browns generated little offense and were victimized by questionable play calling, bad clock management and untimely penalties in their fifth straight loss.

___

49ERS 19, SEAHAWKS 17

SEATTLE (AP) ? David Akers kicked four field goals, including a 39-yarder with 2:57 left, and San Francisco hung on against Seattle (7-8).

Larry Grant sealed the win by forcing Tarvaris Jackson's fumble that was recovered by Donte Whitner with 1:07 left. San Francisco (12-3), which already clinched the NFC West, remained in position for the No. 2 seed in the conference and a first-round playoff bye.

Akers set an NFL record with his 42nd field goal of the season. Frank Gore had a 4-yard touchdown run on the 49ers' first drive of the second half.

Marshawn Lynch scored on a 4-yard run with 6:41 left to give Seattle a 17-16 lead. It was the first TD rushing allowed by the 49ers this season.

___

EAGLES 20, COWBOYS 7

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) ? Michael Vick threw two touchdown passes in a game that had all the intensity of a preseason dress rehearsal.

This game became somewhat meaningless midway through the first quarter. A victory by the Giants eliminated the Eagles (7-8) from the playoffs and turned the Dallas-New York game next weekend into a showdown to decide the NFC East title.

The Cowboys (8-7) sat quarterback Tony Romo after one series and running back Felix Jones after two.

Vick threw a touchdown pass on the opening series and again just before halftime. Alex Henery kicked field goals of 43 and 51 yards for the Eagles.

FilmFunds to use crowdsourcing to pitch 3D conversions (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) ? FilmFunds -- a networking site for filmmakers, actors, financiers and fans -- has acquired post-production house Duran Duboi U.S. and will soon begin converting movies into 3D, TheWrap has learned.

And the company has developed a unusual way of pitching its conversion services.

Carl Freer, the co-founder and chairman of FilmFunds, told TheWrap that he plans to ask his members what movies they'd like to see in 3D. Then he'll go to companies such as Netflix and let them know that there is a demand for certain movies to be converted into 3D.

Now that the company owns Duran Duboi, which specializes in special effects and 3D conversions, it will offer its services to the companies it approaches.

"From the content owners' side, it's a nice way to gauge what the market wants," Freer said, explaining that content providers have told him that they find it difficult to figure out which movies they should convert.

But he has access to 60 million movie lovers -- and can ask them.

"If enough people log on and vote the same way," he said, "we would go back to -- for lack of a better word, go to the Netflixes of the world -- and say, 'Here we have a project that we have a hundred thousand people who want to see this."

That way, he said, "we're taking off a bit of the risk in the decision-making."

Christian Paris, president of Duran Duboi U.S. -- and now vice president of FilmFunds -- will spearhead the conversion process through his company's patented LiveFlix technology.

The technology was used to convert Lionsgate's recent "Conan the Barbarian" into 3D.

"We put together a process which ... allows us almost to convert on the fly," he told TheWrap. "This is designed for home video."

The company also has placed a formal bid on Duran Duboi France, now in Chapter 11

Berenson to return to U.S. for 1st time after jail in Peru (Reuters)

LIMA (Reuters) ? Lori Berenson, a New Yorker who spent 15 years in Peruvian prisons for aiding Marxist insurgents, will visit the United States as early as this weekend for the first time since her 1995 arrest, officials and her family said on Friday.

Berenson, 42, the mother of a 2-year-old boy, was paroled last year after serving most of a 20-year sentence. At the time of her release, Peru's government resisted calls to commute the rest of her sentence so she could return permanently to the United States. Peruvian officials say she must return to Lima by January 11.

She went to Lima's airport late on Friday to catch a flight but arrived too late and will have to change her ticket, RPP radio said.

Berenson's father, Mark, said he was grateful Peruvian authorities gave her permission to travel and that she would return to Peru because she did not want to break the law.

"I'm glad she has a chance to be here for my 70th birthday," Mark Berenson told Reuters in New York. "I'm looking forward to being with my grandson and playing with him."

A student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before becoming involved in social justice issues in Latin America, Berenson was pulled off a bus in Lima 16 years ago and charged with belonging to the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement, or MRTA, an urban guerrilla group.

The MRTA was active in the 1980s and 1990s when a larger insurgency, the Maoist Shining Path, also tried to topple the state.

While behind bars, she became known as an accomplished baker, participated in talent shows of inmates, and had a child with her lawyer, Anibal Apari, a former member of the MRTA.

She told Reuters last year that life outside prison was "much harder than I thought."

Her neighbors in Lima shouted insults at her after her release in a country where people are still traumatized by memories of a long civil war that killed 69,000 people.

Berenson was never convicted of participating in violent acts, but was found guilty of providing support to the MRTA. She says she was imprisoned for renting a house where MRTA members stayed.

"It would be nice if people didn't see me as the face of terrorism, but I can't change that. I live with it. It's not easy, especially because I don't think that I'm a terrorist," she said at the time.

A military tribunal initially sentenced her to life in prison using counterterrorism laws. She was retried later in a civilian court and her sentence was reduced after pressure from her parents, human rights groups and the U.S. government.

Does the ?God particle? need to be renamed? (The Newsroom)

Hitchens (AP)

Christopher Hitchens, the author, writer and Vanity Fair contributing editor, has died, the magazine announced late Thursday. He was 62.

Hitchens, who had been battling esophageal cancer since early 2010, died at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, surrounded by friends, Vanity Fair said.

"There will never be another like Christopher," Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Graydon Carter said in a statement. "A man of ferocious intellect, who was as vibrant on the page as he was at the bar. Those who read him felt they knew him, and those who knew him were profoundly fortunate souls."

The brash, combative and provocative Hitchens was an "incomparable critic, masterful rhetorician, fiery wit, and fearless bon vivant," Vanity Fair's Juli Weiner wrote in one of what will assuredly be many memoriams in the next several hours.

His last book, "Hitch-22," was published shortly before his diagnosis, forcing him to cancel a book tour.

"I have been advised by my physician that I must undergo a course of chemotherapy on my esophagus," Hitchens wrote then. "This advice seems persuasive to me. I regret having had to cancel so many engagements at such short notice."

Yet, he continued to write about his fight with cancer--among other weighty topics--in the months that followed.

"Cancer victimhood contains a permanent temptation to be self-centered and even solipsistic," he wrote in Vanity Fair last year.

In June 2011, he observed: "My chief consolation in this year of living dyingly has been the presence of friends."

We'll post selections of remembrances from some of those friends, and obituaries, below. Check back here for updates.
