Galaxy Mini, Nandroid Backup, and ClockworkMod

Hey guys.

What started out as a simple task of creating a Nandroid backup for my Galaxy Mini (long story) quickly turned into a long and frustrating journey across the Internet.

I find myself stuck at installing Clockwork Mod. Here's what I know so far.

1. Nandroid backups are done via Clockwork Mod. I read that here and here.
2. I need ROM Manager to install CWM. I installed it, but that's when I hit a few snags.

Going through ROM Manager, when I choose the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" option, it asks me to confirm my phone model. I can choose between a Commotiva Z71, a Geeksphone One, a bunch of Huawei phones; essentially anything but a Samsung Galaxy Mini.

Here's where it gets slightly confusing. After I dug through Google some more, including a few forums on XDA Developers, I found out that the best method to install CWM for the Galaxy Mini is via a manual install through the SD card. That's all fine and dandy, until I also read that the only version of CWM that's compatible with the Galaxy Mini, version 5.0.2.6, tends to f--- up the phone itself during the installation process.

So, here I am. At a loss. Should I grow a pair and install CWM manually? Is there a way to install it that doesn't f--- up my phone? Better yet, what other ways, if any, are there to execute a Nandroid backup?
